Nana’s Mandel Bread

Nana’s mandel bread is the premier dessert during family holidays, especially Passover. Many people have tried to replicate it; good, but never quite the same. Her mandel bread is as unique and special as she was.

COOK TIME: 45 Minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 stick margarine, melted
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • Cinnamon (for top)
  • Chopped nuts, raisins and/or chocolate chips, if you wish

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Mix eggs, vanilla, sugar, margarine in a large bowl.
  3. Add flour, salt, baking powder and nuts/raisins/chocolate chips if you wish.
  4. Refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours.
  5. Make two loaves on a baking sheet. Sprinkle cinnamon on top of each loaf.
  6. Bake 40 to 45 minutes, and check with toothpick for doneness.
