Nanny’s Layered Salad

This was my grandmother’s recipe. She made it for every holiday. We continue to make the salad as part of our family tradition and we know that Nanny is smiling down on all of us.

Ingredients

  • 1 head lettuce shredded
  • 1 cup thinly sliced celery
  • 1/2 cup green onion
  • 1 package frozen baby peas
  • 1  1/2 cups mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 hard boiled eggs (mashed)
  • 1/2–3/4 pound of bacon – cut small, fried and crumbled
  • 1 tomato

Steps

  1. Place shredded lettuce in a 4 quart bowl. Top with sliced green onion and celery.
  2. Break frozen peas apart and sprinkle over salad. Spread mayonnaise over the top.
  3. Sprinkle on the sugar, cheese, salt and garlic powder.
  4. Cover and chill in refrigerator for 24 hours.
  5. Just before serving sprinkle with egg and bacon then toss. May garnish with tomato wedges.
